Narendra Damodardas Modi
Narendra
Damodardas Modi was born on 17th September, 1950 in Vadnagar in Mehsana
district of Gujarat, India. He is 15th and current Prime Minister of
India. Narendra Modi, the leader of BJP, had also served as Chief
Minister of Gujarat for 14 long years from 2001-2014.
Childhood
At
very early age he started helping his father to sell tea at Vadnagar
railway station. And as he grew up, at teenage he with the help of his
brother ran tea stall near bus terminal. At the age of 8 years he came
in contact with RSS and started attending its local shakhas. During this
time Modi was inducted as a ‘balswayamsevak’, a junior cadet in RSS.
Education
Narendra
Modi completed his schooling at the right age of 17, and then he is
graduated with a BA degree from Delhi University at 28. He then got his
MA degree at 33 from Gujarat University.
Career
While
attending RSS local meetings he came in contact with Vasant
Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda, leaders of the Jan Sangh who later
founded the BJP's Gujarat state unit in 1980. The RSS assigned Narendra
Modi to the BJP in 1985. Modi was elected as organizing secretary of
BJP's Gujarat unit in 1988, which is known to be his formal entry into
mainstream politics. As a secretary, his strategy was the main reason
behind BJP's victory in the 1995 state elections. Modi was a key
strategist for the BJP in the successful 1995 and 1998 Gujarat state
election campaigns. On 7th October 2001, Modi was appointed as the
Chief Minister of Gujarat, with the responsibility of preparing the BJP
for elections in December 2002.
At Present
At
present Modi is Prime Minister of India. Currently he is also the
Member of Parliament (MP) from Varanasi (he left his MP seat from
Vadodara). In 2014, he lead the BJP in general elections, and the
results were astonishing as it completely outright majority of BJP in
Lok Sabha’s election, the last time that any of the parties secured an
outright majority in the Lok Sabha was in 1984.
Awards and Honors:
1. He was awarded Gujarat Ratna by Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj.
2. He has also received e-Ratna award by the Computer Society of India
3. Narendra Modi was awarded as Best Chief Minister – In a nationwide survey conducted in 2007 by India Today magazine.
4. Modi was featured in Time's 2014 ‘Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world’.
