Amitabh Harivansh Bachchan was born on 11th October, 1942. The legendary Indian film actor is also known as ‘Big B’. His career was on rise since 1970’s when he was called as “angry young man’ after his performance in movies like Deewar and Zanjeer. Data says he had done over 180 Indian movies spanning over four decades. He is the most reputed, talented and influential personalities in the history of Indian Cinema.

Childhood
Amitabh Bacchan was born to Harivansh Rai Bachchan (the famous poet of all times) and Teji Bachchan in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was first named as Inquilaab but later his father changed his name to Amitabh – the light that will never die. Though his actual surname is ‘Shrivastava’, but since his father took the pen-name Bachchan he gave the same to his family members. His sibling is his younger brother, Ajitabh Bachchan.

Education
He studied at Sherwood College boarding school, Nainital and later attended the famous Kirori Mal College, Delhi University from where he attained his degree in Bachelor of Arts.

Career
In 1969, Bachchan made his debut as a voice narrator in the film Bhuvan Shome. He did many movies after that as an actor like Saat Hindustani followed by Anand for which he got his first filmfare best supporting actor award. He continued his acting career with his negative role in the movie Parwaana. But, his life and image changed when he bagged a leading role in the movie Zanjeer (for which he earned his first Filmfare nomination for Best Actor). In 1975, he appeared in two movies of the millennium Deewar and Sholay. There evoluted another Amitabh Bachchan with the name of angry young man of Bollywood. Since then he appeared in a number of movies. In 2000, Bachchan made his first television appearance with famous program Kaun Banega Crorepati. Since then, he is active in TV commercials and lending his voice to many famous movies.

Awards and Recognition
He has won awards ranging from Filmfare awards to Civilian Award of India. He has won National Film Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He was awarded with Padma Shri in 1984 and Padma Bhushan in 2001. Not only India’s highest civilian award, but France’s also, the Knight of the Legion of Honour was conferred upon him. Also, in 2001, he was awarded the actor of the century award at the Alexandria International Film Festival and Lifetime Achievement Award at Asian Film Awards in 2010. He was also conferred with the Honorary Citizenship of the French.
