Mother Teresa


Mother Teresa was born on 26th August, 1910. She was a Roman Catholic religious sister and missionary of Albania, but spent almost all her life in India to work for the upliftment of the downtrodden and the miserable. She was basically a nun by profession dedicated to help the poor. She got her calling to devote her life to those needs and demands care and affection. Mother Teressa founded Missionaries of Charity, which is actively present in 133 countries. In 1979, she received Nobel Peace Prize.

Childhood
Mother Teresa was born to Nikollë and Dranafile Bojaxhiu in Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia. She was the youngest of all her siblings. Her father died when she was barely eight years old. After her father’s death her mother raised her as a Roman Catholic. By the time she became twelve years old, she had decided to dedicate her life for the sake of aged and needy and lead a religious and spiritual life. She left home by the time she became eighteen to join Sisters of Loreto as a missionary and never returned to see her mother or sister as how they are living and earning their livelihood. She was not bothered only because of the reason that they were not needy as other poor people and she knew they can and will survive without her.

Education and career
Mother Teresa used to go to the Loreto Abbey in Rathfarnham, Ireland, to learn English, the language the Sisters of Loreto used to teach school children in India. After that she went to Darjeeling in India and there she learnt the language Bengali and taught at the St. Teresa's School, a schoolhouse close to her convent. She took her religious vows while serving as a teacher in eastern Calcutta. Later on after serving the school for almost twenty years, she became the Principal of the school. She loved serving as a teacher as it satisfied her and alongside helped immensely to those in despair and horror.

Plunge as a Missionary
Mother Teresa started working as a missionary in the year 1948 and adopted new look that of a nun completely. She spent few months of her life in Patna to acquire basic medical training in Holy Family Hospital. Soon after completing the training, she started helping the poor and many women joined her and community known as poorest among the poor was found. Her efforts were soon noticed and were appreciated by the Indian Government.

At the end
Near about 1983, her health started deteriorating and one day she suffered heart attack. Adjacent to it were lung and kidney problems. She got second heart attack in 1989 and received an artificial peacemaker. In the year 1997, Mother Teresa died at the age of eighty seven.
